Mexican Hot Chocolate:

Plastic Baby:

Today I’m going to show you how to prepare this super quick and easy version of a rosca de reyes. This sweet bread is eaten every year on January 6 as a tradition to celebrate the arriving of the three wise men. This bread is so much fun to eat with friends and family because whoever gets the piece of bread with the little plastic baby inside, has to host the tamale and hot chocolate dinner on February second. Try this shortcut version and I know you’re going to love its crispy, flaky, buttery style!

1 pound Puff Pastry Dough
candied fruit
Orange Marmalade
1 Egg
1/3 cup Shortening
1/3 cup Powdered Sugar
1/3 cup Flour

Start off by laying the pastry sheets flat and slice both sides into half inch strips being sure to leave the center part uncut. Spread the orange marmalade down the middle and bring every other strip towards the center to braid it shut. Slightly stretch both of the braided sheets and pinch them together creating a circle or oval shape. To decorate this rosca simply brush it with the whipped egg and stick the pieces of candied fruit and almonds on top. To make the white dough simply mix together the shortening, powdered sugar and flour to create a dough and place strips of it on top as well. Place this on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake this in a preheated oven at 400 degrees F. for 40-45 minutes until rich golden brown color. Enjoy this with a cup of champurado or Mexican hot chocolate.
